ICAO's 35th session opens in Montreal
Montreal, Canada, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The 35th session
of the International Civil Aviation (ICAO) opened here Tuesday,
with a call for more cooperation among its member states
and regions for strengthening safety and security of the
international civil aviation.
In his opening speech at the session, President of ICAO
Assad Kotaite said :"In a world tempted by unilateral
action on a national or regional basis, we must not forget
that aviation is by definition international and that it
can only grow safely and securely through multilateral action".
"ICAO is the only recognized multilateral body whose
specific mission is to bring together the states of the
world in establishing and maintaining a global, haramonized
regulatory framework," he said.
"we must work together toward safe and secure skies,
safe and secure airports, protecting the environment and
supporting a sound , stable and revitalized industry,"
he said.
He said this year will mark the 60th anniversary of ICAO
which has spare no effort to ensure the safe and orderly
development of international civil aviation and has met
head-on every technical, operational, economic, legal and
political challenge with an unfailing determination to maintain
civil aviation as the safest and most efficient mode of
mass transportation ever created.
With its headquarters in Montreal, ICAO has 188 member
states. About 1000 delegates from over 100 countries are
participating the 10-day session. A Chinese delegation led
by Yang Yuanyuan, minister of Genreral Administration of
